Learn the benefits of having a homebirth
Having a baby is the one of the most precious moments for a woman. The joys of bringing in a new life into the world is like none other. Although it comes with great pain, most women will agree it is worth it.
As a San Diego midwife I would like to share with you a method that you might not be aware of.It is also known as waterbirth.
Waterbirth has been described as one of the gentlest ofmethods of deliveries. It requires the use of a heatedwater bath or a pool.A few woman will just use the water for the pain of the labor part. They do this because the heated water is pain relieving. It soothes and relaxes the tissues.
Other women will also delivery the baby through it. They stay in the water all the way through delivery.Even going through it all including delivering the placenta.
The whole process is usuallly performed and helped by someone called a midwife. If you are in San Diego there are plenty of midwives San Diego. You will want to find an experienced one.
Why do quite a few women pick this way of delivering over the hosptial method? As described earlier, delivery and the labor part is extremely painful.A lot of women nowadays use drugs to lessen the pain. But for some women, they don’t want drugs for fear of harming the baby.Using this method of waterbirth helps reduce the pain. Because of the
water heated it is soothing to the tissues and helps reduce the pain.
Most women will have this procedure usually done naturally. They usually won’t use any drugs to dull the pain of labor. Often times this actually helps the labor happen faster. Because the use of drugs usually slows down the labor.
It is really a safe alternate way of delivery. For women looking to having their baby naturally this might be the way to go. I have seen many happy deliveries as a San Diego licensed midwife. All it will require of a woman is to do a little research and see for themselves
how safe it really is.
Alternative ways of having a baby
One of the sad effects of our modern day and age in medicine is how birth and delivery have become a medical procedure.
That might seem unusual to some because right off the bat people associate delivery with a medical event. But that is the big problem. It is not a medical event. It is an event that can be kept natural and as private as possible through alternatives. Women
should be notified to the fact there are alternate ways.
I would like to present one of those main alternatives from the perspective of a San Diego midwife.
That main alternate way is by having a homebirth midwife assisty you during your labor and delivery. This practice is known as midwifery and there are plenty of midwives San Diego.
As the amount of c-sections and induction rates rise in hospitals, it has transformed a very happy moment of delivery into a possible negative experience.
That is a big factor of this push you see of women seeking more natural methods of delivery through midwives that are either certified or licensed.
Birth and the delivery shouldn’t necessarily include drugs, invasive procedures, private areas constantly being probled, etc. It can be done safely and effectively in a home environment through that homebirth method or even a waterbirth San Diego method.
It is a service that does have high regulation. You are able to know all about a midwife’s experience and skill if you are considering hiring them.
But getting past the stigma of passing up having the baby in the hospital takes education. But most women can see if they looked and through experience that statistics prove that a good amount of times having a baby in a hospital can negatively effect the process. From potent drugs that are used ot slow the pregnancy down, or used to increase the speed of the pregnancy. To having to be put through a c-section.Hopefully women can see the comparisons and the contrast and see the success of using a midwife.
So for those women who want to try and keep the delivery of the baby a joyous occasion, using a midwife might be something they should look into.
With the day and age of the internet, finding information about the natural process is as easy as doing a search on the internet.
There they will be able to find useful information that will help them understand the process fully. They can see the safey issues and how they are addressed. And most of all they can see how they can truly keep child birth a momentous occasion that can happily and privately as possible.

Labor and delivery; it brings joy but also pain for the woman.Obviously joy is involved with the new baby, but if you ask most woman, they will also describe it was a source of unspeakable pain.
Well it is because of that pain that there are two schools of thought on how pregnancy and delivery should be carried about. I am going to offer some perspective on one particular school of thought that I have gained first hand experience with by being a homebirth midwife San Diego.
There is the medical model for delivery which is associated with drugs to kill the pain, and sometimes cesarean to complete the delivery.
While there is a lesser known model, not as widely accepted, for those that have experienced it and believe in it, they consider it a safer alternative for the woman.
That model is the midwifery model as it is called. That model is in stark contrast with the medical model. Where the medical model relies heavily on medicine, hence “medical”, midwifery relies on the natural. Midwifery believes that pregnancy and delivery is a natural process and thus should be allowed to happen naturally.
This model is a profession practiced by midwives. Midwives San Diego are generally woman, who attend the birth, often times at the mother’s home. This midwife would then assist the woman in trying to get through labor as naturally as possible without medicine.
Against most popular beliefs, not using medicine during labor actually allows the labor to happen quite a bit faster because drugs usually slow down the labor.
The midwife as a profession does have a regulatory board that licenses, certifies, and oversees the individual.
Although a lot of the times they are not a nurse or a doctor, a midwife sometimes is a nurse also.
Even though they are not formal doctors or nurses, they will have some medical equipment for emergencies like resuscitation devices and equipment for suturing.
So this describes what a midwife is and what midwifery is about in relation to pregnancy and delivery.
Their objective is to let the labor and delivery to occur as naturally as possible. This reduced the need and use of a c-section. Doesn’t allow you to be subject to invasive hospital procedures such as episiotomys.Less medical intrusion will be used such as drugs to speed up or slow the pregnancy or the breaking of the water. And for the woman the best part of all is that labor and delivery usually happen quicker naturally.
My hope is that this information has given you more information on the benefits of midwifery and using a midwife in your pregnancy. At the very least, it gives you some different options to look into and explore. Remember this is first hand knowledge from a San Diego midwife.

Having the baby in your home? Who would do such a thing? Didn’t that only happen back in the early days of our country when doctor’s had to go out to the prairie and deliver babies?
Not so. There is a large group of women who are discovering the benefts of having a baby at home, or homebirth as it is sometimes called.
It is called midwifery the practice of having your baby at home. Although not doctors or nurses, people in this line of work called midwifery are professionally regulated. I myself have seen the steady rise of homebirths through my practice as a San Diego certified midwife.
The people, generally women, who perform this line of work are called homebirth midwives. Midwives is the term most people are familiar with and means a person who helps during childbirth by providing support of the labor and delivery.
Now a midwife is usually not a nurse or doctor because in general a midwife generally believes that pregnancy and births are natural events and should be allowed to proceed naturally without drugs. This is in stark contrast with the medical model which relies on medicine to assist and improve the pregnancy and delivery.
With that taken care of, lets examine why women are choosing to have babies at home. What are the reasons why women are choosing homebirths?
First, with the midwife’s continued presence, the labor time can actually be reduced. Most women don’t realize that the use of pain medications although seemingly helpful in regards to pain, actually slows the labor down. This in reality causes the pain and the labor to last much longer.
Second, midwifery practices actually causes a reduction in the need for forceps and other devices in a delivery. The technique of letting the birth and delivery to occur naturally is what reduces the need to use those devices.
Third, the possiblity of c-section deliveries are actually reduced. Most cesareans are performed because during labor, somehow a consensus was made that a natural vaginal birth was not possible. Either the safety of the mother was in mind or the safety of the baby. When in reality the complication was created because the natural birth process wasn’t allowed to happen.
These are just 3 of the benefits of having a natural birth at home. There are many more, but I am sure most women in pregnancy would agree these are 3 huge benefits.
So although, most might consider it strange to want to have a child at home, studies have shown that allowing the natural birth process to happen is safer for the mother and the baby. With over 300 births attended as a homebirth midwife in San Diego, this has proven to be the case time and time again.
